I have been drawing since I was a child. I took a few years off and have recently gotten back into it. This was my 1st foray into digital art, however. I had owned Affinity Designer (AD) for a couple of years, but I never learned how to use it to create vector art.
Note: The software doesn’t teach you how to paint. It only provides tools so that you can do it digitally.
I came across a course by Romain Trystram in the AD software workbook which was the basis of this piece. I truly admire his work. You can check out his portfolio here (https://romaintrystram.myportfolio.com/) and here (https://www.behance.net/romaintrystram)

After playing around with the program tools and learning the various shortcuts, I decided to create my own skyline. Living in the Miami area made it the obvious choice. It is a very beautiful and captivating city.

I had to decide how much detail and/or realism I wanted. I am more of a realism artist therefore it was very tough for me to keep this piece stylized. For instance, if you look at the top of the circular green tower, near the center, you can see where I drifted into realism. Realistically, creating that level of detail for every building would have been too time-consuming. It would have also defeated the purpose of this piece.

All in all, it took me approximately 30 hours to finish this. It most likely would have taken less time if I wasn’t learning the software as I went along.
Despite the amount of time it took, I enjoyed working on this. I hope you enjoy it as well. I have a few more cities planned so stay tuned.
